Historic Signs Uncovered During Shop Renovation

Two historic signs are to be preserved after being uncovered during a shop renovation in Market Harborough.

The signs for JH Tilley family butcher and Harpers Cycle Company were revealed on front of the former Mobility Your Way premises on Northampton Road, which was once two shops.

The signs are believed to date back around 80 years and were discovered by contractors carrying out guttering work, who removed other signs that had been placed on top of them over the years.

Fearing they would be removed and lost forever, owners of the neighbouring Emmerson and Wests shop have stepped in to fund the expert removal of the signs, to ensure a part of the town’s history is saved for future generations.
