Firefighters were called after a car burst into flames near Lutterworth.

Luckily the driver was able to get out of the vehicle and call 999 before the blaze took hold.

It happened on Bitteswell Road just after 4pm yesterday and police also attended the scene.

The burnt out car

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service told HFM: “We received a call at 16:15 from the driver of the vehicle notifying of one car well alight.

“Lutterworth Station attended and the fire was extinguished using two Breathing Apparatus in the open and one Hose Reel Jet.

“The road was closed in both directions by the Fire Service and later reopened by the Police once vehicle recovery had been arranged.

“The cause of the fire was accidental due to an electrical fault in the engine with 100% damage to the vehicle from the fire.”
