Residents ‘Horrified’ After Rabbit Deliberately Killed By Dog

Residents were left ‘horrified’ after witnessing a man releasing a rabbit from a container before it was chased and killed by a dog in Market Harborough.
It happened at the country park on the Wellington Place Estate on Tuesday lunchtime and involved a group of two men and two children.

A witness told HFM: “It was horrific to see. The rabbit was let out of the container and a whippet-type dog then chased and killed it.
“One of the group then picked up the carcass and they all left.
“There were other people around including children. It was just barbaric.”
A similar incident happened at around 5pm on Wednesday and Leicestershire Police have launched an investigation.
A spokesperson told HFM: “A report of hare coursing in the area of Wellington Place was received just after 5pm on Wednesday (19 February). Officers deployed but no-one was located.”
Police are appealing for anyone with information to call 101, quoting incident 429 of 19 February.
