The RSPCA is hoping to find the owner of a dog discovered dead in the canal near Great Bowden.

The body of the female black terrier type dog was removed from the water last Thursday, although it is thought the animal had been in the water for a number of days.

The dog was discovered at the canal entrance near to Great Bowden Hall on Leicester Lane.

The animal welfare charity says the cause of death could not be established by a vet, due to the body being in the water for some time.

RSPCA Inspector Beckie Harlock  said: “It must have been very upsetting for passers-by to discover the dog, and I’d like to say thank you to them for reporting these cases to us.

“We don’t know how the dog came to be in the water so if anyone recognises the description, or is currently searching for this dog, I’d ask them to contact me on 0300 123 8018, quoting incident number 01434009.”
