Apology After Trains Cancelled For Nine Hours

An apology has been made after Market Harborough was left with no train services for around nine hours yesterday.

A fault with the signalling system in the Wigston area closed the line between Leicester and Kettering from just before midday.

No East Midlands Railway services could run through the town, leaving passengers having to use a replacement bus service until late evening.

All trains are currently cancelled

A Network Rail spokesperson told HFM: “We are very sorry for the disruption to passengers yesterday.

“A fault with the signalling system meant services had to be diverted and replacement buses provided.

“Teams on site had to carry out testing on the signalling over a long distance to find the source of the problem.

“Once this was found a new cable was run out and connected.

“A number of fuses also needed to be replaced.

“We’re sorry for the amount of time this took.”

A spokesperson for East Midlands Railway said: “We would like to apologise to customers for the inconvenience the disruption has caused.

“Customers should please visit our website where there are details of how they can claim a refund.”

There has been further disruption to services today caused by overhead power line problems near London.
