Rugby Star’s Big Challenge To Visit HFM Region

Rugby star Kevin Sinfield will pass through the HFM region tomorrow on the penultimate day of an epic 230-mile fundraiser.

The ex-Leeds Rhinos player is running seven ultra-marathons of around 31 miles in seven days, in memory of his late teammate Rob Burrow, who died of motor neurone disease earlier this year.

The leg between the HQ of the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association in Northampton and Leicester will take him through Brixworth, Naseby, Sibbertoft, Mowsley, Wigston and Fleckney, before ending at the Tigers’ Welford Road ground.

Sinfield’s ‘Running Home for Christmas 7 In 7 Challenge’ – in recognition of Burrow’s shirt number – has already raised more than £543,000 for the MND Association.

The 44-year-old will run half of tomorrow’s route in the black, green and gold of Northampton Saints, before switching to the green, red and white of  Leicester Tigers.

The challenge is Sinfield’s fourth consecutive annual event to raise money for MND charities, having already raised almost £10m in previous fundraisers.
