Work Steps Up On Site Of New Prison

Work is being stepped up ahead of the construction of a massive new prison near Market Harborough.
The Ministry of Justice says there will be an increase in people and vehicles on the site in the coming weeks, as preparation work enters anotherr phase.
Latest work involves trees being trimmed on Welland Avenue, to allow for high-sided vehicles to enter and leave the site safely, the erection of additional fencing, including off Gallow Field Road where a new vehicular access point is being created, and surveys and works in relation to utility services, ecology and landscaping.

The 1700-imate prison is being built adjacent to the existing HMP Gartree and is set to take just over four years to construct.
There was strong opposition to the jail, which was given the go-ahead by government after both Harborough District Council and a planning inspector refused to grant permission for it.
Residents can also find out more about the progress of the work and ask questions at a drop-in event being hosted by the MoJ next month.
It will take place at Market Harborough Methodist Church on November 12th between 3pm and 8pm.
