Drop-In Event This Week After Flooding In Market Harborough

A drop-in event will be held in Market Harborough on Wednesday following last month’s floods.

Experts from the Environment Agency will be there to answer questions and offer advice, alongside representatives from the county and district councils and and other key organisations.

Some shops and businesses in the town centre were flooded during intensive rainfall, while some homes and schools in the district were also affected.

Councillor Ozzy O’Shea, county council cabinet member for flooding, said: “Local councils and agencies work closely together to provide a united flooding support service for Leicestershire and these drop-in sessions have been put in place to provide reassurance and information for the public.

“Protecting ourselves from flooding is everyone’s responsibility and so I would encourage anyone who is concerned to come along and learn more about how to keep themselves, their businesses and their homes safe in the event of a flood.

“We’re looking at areas that experienced significant surface water to check gullies are working to their max capacity and also if there are implications for other flood risk management organisations.”

The event will take place between 2pm and 6pm on Wednesday at the Symington Building.
