Final Stretch Of Link Road Faces Delay In Opening

A developer wants to delay the opening of the final part of a new link road through Market Harborough’s Airfield Farm estate on health and safety grounds.

The main stretch of the route between the A4304 at Lubenham Hill and the B6047 Leicester Road via Peter Callis Way is on-course to open later this month, however the opening of the final section along Airfield Road to the roundabout by Harborough Innovation Centre could be put back.

There could be a delay in opening the final part of the link road along Airfield Road

Developer Taylor Wimpey say that area remains busy with construction traffic, which would pose a hazard to passing drivers.

It has applied to Harborough District Council to delay opening the final part of the route, saying it will be brought into use by the end of June next year.

The timing of the opening of the road was part of the original planning permission for the estate and last year the council agreed it could be delayed until this month, to tie-in with the opening of a new primary school on the estate.
