Revised Plans For New Co-Op In Great Glen

Written by on 7th August 2024

There are new plans to redevelop an area in the centre of Great Glen including building a new convenience store.

Planning permission is already in place for land between Main Street and Church Road, but the Central England Co-Op has now bought the entire site and is proposing amendments to the original scheme.

It wants to build a bigger new store to replace its existing shop on Main Street, together with a car park and five houses.

The area includes the former Thorpes Joinery factory site and previously eight houses were planned for the site, together with flats above the new store.

A spokesperson for Central England Co-Op told HFM: “We purchased this site, located immediately next to our existing store, back in March 2024.

“It already had the benefit of planning consent for a development, including the development of a brand-new store, but since then, we’ve recently submitted a revised planning application for a new shop and five houses.

“If we’re successful in securing the planning, then we will look to demolish the existing store to create a carpark for the community to use when visiting Central Co-op.

“It’s too early to say what the timescales are for this, but we’ll be sure to keep the community updated.”
