New road safety measures are to be introduced outside several schools across Harborough.

It follows concerns about parking at the start and end of the school day.

Leicestershire County Council will introduce new safety schemes at Little Bowden Primary School, Husbands Bosworth C of E Primary School, Billesdon C of E Primary School, and Market Harborough C of E Primary Academy  to coincide with the start of the new school year in September.

Harborough MP’s has been campaigning for action outside Little Bowden Primary after several near misses involving pupils and drivers.

Restrictions will come into force on Scotland Road to stop parking on the opposite side to the school.

Councillor Ozzy O’Shea, county council cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “The scheme outside Little Bowden School is part of a wider package of measures to improve safety outside schools across the Harborough area.

“We always work closely with stakeholders, including MPs, to make sure that any safety concerns raised are dealt with quickly.

“We’re very aware that parking around certain schools is a long-running issue for residents, and we always encourage everyone to park safely and considerately.”
