Work Starts To Refurbish Flats For Homeless Accomodation

Major repairs have begun to flats in Market Harborough so they can be used a temporary accommodation for the homeless.

Harborough District Council spending around £200,000 renovating the three properties in Plowmans Yard off Coventry Road, which have been out of use because of damp and mold issues.

The work will include installing a new roof, windows and doors, is set to be completed by the start of December.

A council spokesperson said: “The anticipated programme for the improvement work is to take up to 24 weeks so the expected completion date is at the end of November 2024, with furnishing following that and the flats being available for use from early January 2025.”

There has been a rise in homelessness across Harborough in the past year and many people needing temporary accommodation are housed outside the area.
