A popular Market Harborough man who suffered life-threatening aneurysms in both his legs is thanking people for their support.

Musician John Maher collapsed suddenly at home a week ago and was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery, to save his right leg from amputation.

He now faces having another operation and a long road to recovery, as he continues to be cared for at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester.

John, who previously worked at John Ross & Son Butchers, assists his wife Juliette in organising fundraising and community events in Market Harborough, including the popular Christmas Fayre and Summer Fayre.

The couple are self-employed cleaners and John’s son Luke decided to do a sponsored walk to raise money to support them, during a time they will be unable to work.

He today walked the 19-mile distance from Market Harborough to his Dad’s bedside in Leicester in just under six hours and has raised over £2,000 in sponsorship.

Luke spoke to HFM:
