Kibworth Villagers Demand Action Over Bridge ‘Pond’

Villagers in Kibworth are demanding action to deal with flooding beside a new footbridge over the railway. 

A large deep pool of water is forming every time it rains, meaning the well-used route off School Road is impossible for pedestrians to use without getting their feet wet.

It has been called ‘the new village pond’ by some residents.

It has been an issue since Network Rail opened the news bridge last month, after replacing a previous bridge, which was not tall enough to accommodate electric wires.

Councillors and Harborough MP Neil O’Brien have written to the rail infrastructure body calling for issue to be rectified.

Kevin Feltham is the county councillor for the area and spoke to HFM about the situation:

A Network Rail spokesperson told HFM: “We are aware of the issues with the ponding at Grammar School bridge.

“We are investigating the situation but we believe this is related to a historic issue with council-owned land.

“We are currently working with Leicestershire County Council to support a resolution as soon as possible.”

A council spokesperson said: “Leicestershire County Council is aware of the flooding issue at this location.

“We are working with Network Rail to resolve this, and anticipate that Network Rail will implement a permanent solution in the near future.”
