Shrubs Stolen From Welland Park After Community Planting Project

Thieves have stolen shrubs planted in Market Harborough’s Welland Park as part of a community project.
They removed several from ground around the pond area of the park, close to the Farndon Road entrance.
The shrubs were removed from the ground in Welland Park
200 shrubs and trees were planted in March after Market Harborough Rotary Club headed-up the two-day planting session, in partnership with Harborough District Council, which has described the thefts as ‘senseless vandalism.’
The thieves targeted some of the most expensive shrubs, including Buxus sempervirens and they were found to be missing last week.
Barbara Tallis from Market Harborough in Bloom helped with the planting and spoke to HFM:

A spokesperson for Harborough District Council told HFM: “This is an example of senseless vandalism.
“What was a valued community planting project has been spoilt.
“We are sorry for residents and park users that this has happened and are working closely with the police to identify those responsible and stop this happening again.
“If anyone has any information, please report it to the police at: www.leics.police.uk”
