The go-ahead has been given for over 200 acres of farmland near Wistow to be turned into a giant solar farm.

Harborough District Council last night granted planning permission for the development across seven fields off Fleckney Road, which will be the biggest of its kind in the district.

Over 100,000 solar panels will be installed

Over 100,000 solar panels will be installed which will be capable of creating enough electricity to power over 13,000 thousands homes a year.

Councillors approved the plan despite concerns expressed by Fleckney Parish Council, which argued the development will have a visual impact on residents living near to it.

The land will still be able to be used for sheep grazing and the solar farm will have a 40-year lifespan.
