Anger As Developer Proposes Scrapping Bus Link Road

Council bosses are being urged to not allow developers to scrap a bus link road around a new Market Harborough estate.

Davidsons Developments agreed to build the road when it was given planning permission for the 600-home estate off Kettering Road, but now wants to replace it with a footpath and cycleway.

Residents and Harborough MP Neil O’Brien say it is not acceptable for any such change to be made, midway through the estate’s construction.

They are urging Harborough District Council to refuse the developer’s application to alter conditions set-out when the original planning application was approved.

In a document sent to Harborough District Council, Davidsons say the amendment is needed to maintain ease of movement for existing and future residents and to limit the number of extra vehicles through the estate.

The developer’s application to make changes also seeks to delay the construction of a cyclepath along Kettering Road, and change layouts to a proposed school, a local centre, sports pitch and play areas.

The District Council’s planning committee will consider the application later this year.

Davidsons has not commented further.
