New Hallaton Treasure Objects Go On Display

Previously unseen objects from the Hallaton Treasure collection have gone on display at Harborough Museum.

They include five Roman cavalry helmet cheek pieces and two replicas of the famous Hallaton Helmet, which has been the centrepiece of displays following one of the most important iron-age discoveries in Britain in the year 2000.

The helmet cheek pieces have been painstakingly conserved at the British Museum over many years.

The museum has re-opened today after being shut to allow for Hallaton Treasure displays to be upgraded and Tim Savage, Local Museums officer for Leicestershire County Council, spoke to HFM about the additions:

The upgrades to the displays work has been made possible thanks to generous funding from Leicestershire Archaeological and Historical Society, Market Harborough Historical Society, Leicestershire Fieldworkers, The Friends of Leicester and Leicestershire Museums, Market Harborough & the Bowdens Charity and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
