Safety Fears After Street Racing Returns To A6 Bypass

Written by on 11th March 2024

Harborough MP Neil O’Brien fears someone will be seriously injured or killed if illegal street racing continues on the A6 bypass near Great Glen.

Around 50 drivers were involved in a car meet there at around 9pm on Saturday evening, with cars parked in laybys and reports of some travelling at high speed on the duel carriageway and through the village.

It was the second time in two months the area has been used for racing.

Mr O’Brien is seeking a meeting with police to discuss the issue:

Racing took place on the A6 bypass near Great Glen & through the village

Leicestershire Police say officers arrived at the scene within ten minutes of receiving calls from members of the public, by which time the majority of drivers had already left.

Any CCTV or dashcam footage will be assessed with a view to dealing with any driver identified for offences.
