Multi-Million Pound Green Energy Plant Proposed

Plans have been announced to build a multi-million pound Anaerobic Digestion Plant on the outskirts of Great Bowden.
The green energy facility is proposed for the site of a former Mushroom Farm on Welham Lane, which has stood derelict for over 20 years.
It would see maize, straw and chicken manure used to produce bio-methane, which would be fed into the National Gas Grid via a near-by connection point.

The plant, which would cost between £18m & £20m to construct, would include a digester tank, lagoon, plus plant equipment and associated buildings.
Phil Greenaway is from GMT biogas, the company behind the plan and told HFM why the site has been chosen and why people should not be concerned about it generating smells:
A planning application for the plant has been submitted and will be decided by Leicestershire County Council.
The proposed site has been the scene of a number of arson attacks over the years and suffered from anti-social behaviour.
An illegal rave was also held there in 2018.
