A full investigation will be carried out into flooding across Harborough caused by Storm Henk.

Several properties were damaged by water and many roads became impassable during prolonged rainfall on Tuesday.

Leicestershire County Council will head-up the probe as Lead Local Flood Agency and Harborough District Council will also be involved.

Councillor Darren Woodiwiss is cabinet member for Environment And Climate Change at the district council:

A spokesperson for Leicestershire County Council said: “The county council will be investigating the floods caused by Storm Henk as per our responsibility as Lead Local Flood Agency, and all internal property flooding cases will be prioritised.

“The high demand caused by the effects both Storm Babet and Storm Henk left across the county mean this work may take some time, however we will ensure all flooding reports are investigated.”

Harborough MP Neil O’Brien has called for a meeting with the council and Environment Agency following the flooding.

Neil O’Brien has visited some residents and business owners who have been affected and wants to ensure lessons are learned and mitigation measures considered.

He also says there are parts of the road network that could be more resilient when it rains, like the B6047 Melton Road where it goes under the railway bridge and A6 at the railway bridge near Kibworth, both of which flooded.
