Streetlights To Be Dimmed For 18-Month Trial

Streetlights across Leicestershire will be dimmed for an 18-month trial.
Lighting levels will be reduced to 30% on most roads from 8pm, despite worries about crime and personal safety being raised during a public consultation.
The cost-cutting measure by Leicestershire County Council is set to start in February, although streetlights in town centres and at major road junctions will not be affected.

More than half the people who responded to a public consultation said they were against plan although no objections were received by Leicestershire Police, East Midlands Ambulance Service or Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service.
The council’s cabinet gave the go-ahead for the trial at a meeting yesterday.
Currently most lights dim to 30% at 10pm and Councillor Ozzy O’Shea told the meeting a full review of the trial will take place before any decision to make it permanent:
