Developers Propose Delay In Opening Link Road

Written by on 14th November 2023

Developers want to delay the opening of a road which will connect two sides of Market Harborough.

The link road between the B6047 Harborough Road and A4304 at Lubenham Hill was set to open when over 450 homes had been occupied on the Airfield Farm housing estate, which it runs through.

That number has now been reached, but developers want to hold-off on opening the full route fully until August 2024, just before a new primary school is due to open on the estate.

The link road will connect one side of the estate with the other

Reasons cited are primarily safety concerns – with the building of homes still taking place adjacent to the road and construction traffic using it.

The planning for bus services to use the route is also not yet complete.

A document supplied by developers to Harborough District Council reads: “By August 2024 the new Airfield Farm Primary School is also expected to be opened.

“Accordingly access from all areas of the site and through the site should be available then.

“The wider footway/cycleway network beyond the link road should also have progressed further and will provide more options for pedestrians and cyclists.”

The Council will consider an application to amend a condition of the original planning permission, to adjust the timing of the link road opening.
