Desborough ‘Eyesore’ Could be Redeveloped Soon

Written by on 2nd November 2023

It’s been revealed three schemes have been shortlisted for the redevelopment of a long-derelict site in the centre of Desborough – which is currently being sold off by North Northamptonshire Council.

However, no details of these proposals for the former Lawrence’s Shoe Factory and its two acres of grounds have yet been released to the public.

Desborough Town Council says they could include retail, housing or care facilities, but has gone on record to support previously approved plans to build a supermarket there, to boost town centre trade.

The ‘eyesore’ site off Harborough Road has stood empty for over 20 years, and was bought by now-defunct Kettering Borough Council in 2005.

There’ve also been other schemes – including refurbishing the existing building and creating social housing on the land – but none has ever come to fruition.
