Shoppers To Park For Free On December Saturdays

Written by on 25th October 2023

There will be free parking in Market Harborough and Lutterworth on four Saturdays in the run-up to Christmas.

Harborough District Council is to waive charges in its car parks on the 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd December to help residents during a cost of living crisis and businesses, by encouraging people to shop in the town centre.

It will be the first time in three years such an initiative will run, with shoppers able to park for up to four hours in short stay car parks, and all day in long stay ones for no charge.

Free parking will be offered on Saturdays in the run-up to Christmas

The council announced the decision this morning at a meeting with the Market Harborough Chamber of Trade and Commerce.

Cllr Phil Knowles, Leader of Harborough District Council, said: “This initiative is supporting residents and businesses alike in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis.

“By suspending parking charges we are showing our commitment to ensuring that our town centres don’t just survive, but thrive.

“I encourage people to take advantage of this fantastic offer and to use this as an opportunity to shop local.”

Drivers will still need to register their stay in car parks, through the Pay by Phone App or by getting a free ticket from the pay and display machines and will still enter their vehicle registration number to benefit from one free parking period per day.
