Public Consultation On Tip Closure Plan To Launch Next Week

Written by on 25th October 2023

A public consultation into the planned closure of Market Harborough tip will launch next week.

Residents will have 12 weeks to have their say on the controversial plan from November 1st, after Leicestershire County Council’s Cabinet voted to push forward with it at a meeting yesterday.

The Recycling and Household Waste Site on Riverside is one of three across the county recommended for closure, as part of cost saving.

If approved people would have to travel to Kibworth tip to dump rubbish.

There has already been an angry reaction to the plan from residents and concerns raised by councillors and Harborough MP Neil O’Brien.

Cllr Blake Pain, cabinet member for the environment and green agenda, is urging people to take part in the consultation when it opens:

The council is also proposing reducing opening hours at all its Recycling and Household Waste Sites between April and September and closing all sites on Christmas Eve.
