Go-Ahead For New Primary School In Market Harborough

The go-ahead has been given for a new 210-place primary school in Market Harborough.
Costing £9.3m, it will be built on land between Airfield Road and Owen Way on the Airfield Farm housing estate and be the first new school in the town for over 20 years.
Initially for reception year youngsters, it could open as soon as next September and the modular design means the school could be extended in the future to accommodate 420 pupils.
The plan was unanimously approved by Leicestershire County Council’s Development Control and Regulatory Board this afternoon.
County councillor Phil King, who represents Market Harborough and Foxton, told the meeting the school will be very much welcomed by residents:

The County Council will build the school using money provided by housing developers and the government and will then hand it over to an Academy Trust, to run it.
The Secretary of State For Education will decide which Trust that is, after four recommendations were put forward by the council earlier this year.
