A new ‘Family Hub’ will open in Market Harborough next week to provide a ‘one-stop-shop’ for parents and carers to access support and advice.

The facility will be set-up at the Children and Wellbeing Centre on Coventry Road and will support families with children aged under 19, as well as parents and carers of  young people with special educational needs or disabilities, aged up to 25.

The County Council received government funding of nearly £945,000 to set-up over 20 such facilities across Leicestershire, which are being likened to Sure Start centres, which were closed by the government in the post-2010 austerity years.

Councillor Deborah Taylor, lead member for children and families, said: “We are delighted to be rolling out this scheme, which we believe will help give our families the best start in life.

“There is a lot of information and tools out there to support parents in caring for their children and own wellbeing, but it is not always clear how, and where, to access it all.

“The family hubs, whether in a building or accessed ‘digitally’, will be places where information, advice and support can be easily found in one place.”
