Council Urges End To Rail Disputes
Written by HFM News on 25th July 2023
Harborough District Council is calling for an end to on-going rail strikes.
Councillors backed a motion last night urging all sides to work to resolve the dispute as quickly as possible.
On-going strikes by members of the ASLEF and RMT unions over pay and conditions have led to disruption for rail passengers, with further action planned.
The motion put forward by former Conservative council leader Phil King, highlighted the impact of the strikes on residents and businesses, and was backed by members with slight amendments.
Council Leader Phil Knowles will now write to the unions, Transport Minister and Rail Delivery Group, which represents rail operators, raising concern about the impact of the strikes locally and urging for a solution to end them.
