Demolition Work To Start Ahead Of New Homes Development

Work to demolish bungalows ahead of the major redevelopment of an elderly people’s housing site in Market Harborough will begin next month.
The £6m scheme at Naseby Square on the southern estate will see 38 new affordable homes built by Platform Housing Group.

The go-ahead for the scheme was given in 2021, despite major opposition about the loss of the existing homes, with over 800 people signing petitions against it.
Bulldozers will move onto the site during the second week of August, before construction of the new houses begins.
A spokesperson for Platform Housing Group said: “Work to create 38 new affordable homes at Naseby Square is set to begin imminently.
“Newly appointed contractor Lincoln based Lindum Group, held a ‘Meet the Contractor’ event for local residents last month where together with the Platform team, they were on hand to answer queries and questions and to clarify exactly what work will take place.
“The most up -to-date plans were also on display.
“Lindum will begin setting up their site week commencing 25th July with demolition works planned for week commencing 7th August.”
Harborough District Council was behind the original plan for the site, but sold the land it owned there to Platform Housing Group for £1.4m.
The authority was also accused of paying over the odds when it spent £920,000 buying a bungalow in neighbouring Granville Street, so the land could be used in the re-development.
