Driver Rescued After Flash Flooding In Fleckney

A driver was rescued after intense rainfall caused flashing flood in the centre of Fleckney.
A month’s worth of rain fell in the village in less than two hours yesterday afternoon, leading to water about 3ft deep forming on part of the High Street, near the duck pond.

A specialist water rescue team from Market Harborough fire station was deployed after the driver of a BMW became submerged in the flood just after 5.30pm.
The intense rain led to flooding elsewhere in the county, including on the A6 near Great Glen, with the fire service receiving over 200 flood-related 999 calls.
The affected area of the High Street is Fleckney was cordoned and Matt Cane, Head of Operational Response at Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, spoke to HFM about the incident:
