Anger After ‘Non-Existent’ Roadworks Cause Chaos On A6 In Kibworth

Severn Trent Water has been criticised for not carrying out any work on the A6 in Kibworth over the weekend, despite setting up temporary traffic lights which caused traffic chaos.

The company has apologised after a lane was closed at the Church Road/Marsh Drive junctions, which resulted in lengthy queues.

Councillors in the village called it ‘completely unacceptable,’ while Harborough MP Neil O’Brien has written to the water company’s Chief Executive, demanding an explanation.

Drivers have also taken to social media to express their frustration at delays caused to their journeys because of the temporary traffic lights, which were removed earlier today.

Leicestershire County Council, which grants permits to utility firms to carry out highway work, has launched an investigation and says it will work with Severn Trent Water to find out why no work took place.

A Severn Trent Water spokesperson told HFM: “We would like to apologise for the disruption in Kibworth at the weekend caused by the temporary traffic lights on the A6.

“The lights were delivered so that we could undertake planned works over the weekend, however due to unforeseen circumstances the was unable to go ahead.

“The lights were removed just after 10am today (June 19). Again, we would like to offer our apologies for any disruption caused.”
