Harborough’s Sax Orchestra Heads For Scotland!

Members of Market Harborough’s Phoenix Saxophone Orchestra are travelling to Scotland this week to perform concerts with fellow musicians they met on-line.
They built up a lasting friendship with the Aberdeenshire Saxophone Orchestra after teaming up during the Covid lockdown and the two groups will now get to meet in-person for the first time.
The two orchestras even had an online recording project of Julius Fučik’s ‘Entry of the Gladiators’ nominated for a prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Inspiration Award.

The Harborough musicians are making the 480-mile trip north for the concerts, which take place in Inverurie on Saturday and at Aden Country Park, Mintlaw on Sunday, with the 40-strong combined orchestra performing three joint pieces.
Jane Smith from the Phoenix Saxophone Orchestra said: “We are really excited to be making the trip north to meet and play live with our friends in Aberdeenshire for the very first time.
“We’ve built a very strong relationship online over the past three years, and this is a fantastic example of how music can unite us, across borders.”
To make the most of their time in Scotland, Phoenix will also be going on a whistlestop sightseeing tour around Aberdeenshire on Friday, and are planning to perform a couple of mini pop up concerts en route, at The Bothy in Braemar village at around midday and, weather permitting, in the courtyard at Crathes Castle mid-afternoon.
