Future Plans To Be Discussed For Long-Standing Derelict Site In Desborough

Written by on 17th May 2023

Future plans for a long-standing derelict site in Desborough will be considered next month.

It was announced earlier this year the idea of building 40 council homes on the former Lawrence’s Factory site, in a scheme worth over £9m, was being reviewed amid increasing costs.

Now, councillors at North Northamptonshire Council will meet to discuss a report on options available to them.

Recently work has taken place to clear vegetation from areas of the derelict site, off Harborough Road.

A spokesperson for North Northamptonshire Council told HFM: “The future of the site will be considered by NNC’s Executive in June in a forthcoming report that will consider the optimum future for this location. (or the future options for the location).

“Clearance of part of the site was undertaken as part of routine maintenance works undertaken at the vacant property.”

The plan for homes on the site of the former shoe factory, which has stood derelict for over 20 years, had previously been put on hold after Aldi expressed interest in building a supermarket there, but the retailer then pulled out of talks.
