‘Use Them Or Lose Them Plea’ As £2 Bus Fare Cap Extended

Harborough’s MP is encouraging people to use buses after the government extended the £2 cap on fares for a second time.

It will continue until the end of October, before rising to £2.50 for a further 12 months.

The current limit on fares has now been extended twice to ease the cost of living pressures on passengers, but also to encourage people to use buses.

Stagecoach and Arriva are among operators who will continue to offer the reduced fares.

Extending the programme will cost the government an extra £200m – with Transport Secretary Mark Harper also pledging £300m to “protect vital routes and improve services”.

A number of bus services in the Harborough are under threat, as Leicestershire County Council conducts a review of all routes it subsidises.
