Dementia Harborough receives £2000 donation

Dementia Harborough is expressing its thanks after receiving a donation
of over £2,000 towards its many activities.

The money was raised during the past twelve months by Leicester LAFF
Tangent after its current Chairman, Dilys Smith, decided to make it her
chosen good cause.

“My mother Leila was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s eight years ago” reveals
Dilys. “For over six years now we’ve been attending Dementia Harborough
on a monthly basis. Sadly, my mum Leila passed away last week, so she
wasn’t able to be here today as I presented a cheque. However, I know
that she would have been very proud.”

On Tuesday (18th April) Chris Jones and Owen Brooks from HFM helped out
with the presentation of the money raised at the Dementia Cafe (top
photo).

Dilys adds: “Dementia Harborough have been an amazing support network,
both for my mother and me. At the monthly meetings, everything is always
provided for free, not only the refreshments but also all the varied
activities. The volunteers provide support, help and advice, a listening
ear and much more. Even during the pandemic, there was always something
being delivered, afternoon tea, jigsaws, activity books, lots of things
to keep Mum busy. I felt I wanted to give something back, as a way to
thank them for everything they’ve done and continue to do so.”

Peter Hirst Chairman of Dementia Harborough says: “We very grateful for
all the support it gets from various donors, which all enables us to
offer activities to all members entirely free of charge and an example
of this wonderful support is the very kind donation from Dilys Smith
Chairman of LAFF Tangent of over £2,000.”
