Gas Leak Closes Main Through-Route In Market Harborough

Written by on 29th March 2023

A gas leak has forced the closure of part of Springfield Street in Market Harborough to traffic.

The stretch from Northampton Road to the entrance to Sainsbury’s car park is shut in both directions and is likely to remain so until the weekend.

Engineers from Cadent Gas are working at the scene.

Part of Springfield Street in closed to traffic

Drivers are facing long queues on Northampton Road and St Mary’s Road as they avoid the closure by travelling towards the town centre on diversion routes.

A spokesperson for Cadent Gas said: “The work on Springfield Street is as a result of a below medium pressure gas leak and it fell within our criteria for immediate action.

“We have now got teams working on it and that work will continue into the night.

“Our aim is to attempt to get this work complete by tomorrow, with reinstatement to the gas main taking place tomorrow afternoon/Friday.

“We hope to have the road reopen by the weekend.

“Naturally, we understand that this is frustrating and inconvenient to road users and residents, but we thank them for their patience as our engineers carry out the work as safely and as quickly as possible.”

Another gas leak in the same area in January resulted in the road being closed for a number of days.
