Flood Alert Issued For River Welland

A Flood Alert has been issued for the River Welland through Market Harborough and the Welland Valley.

The heavy rain and melting snow on Friday has seen water levels rise, with flooding in some areas near the river including in Medbourne.

The same alert is in force for the River Jordan between Braybrooke and Market Harborough and the River Sense in and around Great Glen.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: “Over the last few days, we have seen heavy rainfall and snow in the River Welland area.

“This means that The River Welland has risen, which has led to flooding of low-lying land and roads close to the river.

“We expect the river to remain high throughout the next few days and flooding to gardens, driveways or outbuildings is possible close to the river.”

“Please avoid using low lying footpaths and roads near rivers, which may be flooded.”
