Welland Park Toilets Re-Open After £235,000 Transformation

Written by on 2nd March 2023

Toilets in Market Harborough’s Welland Park have re-opened this afternoon after getting a major upgrade.

The facilities have been shut since November to allow for the £235,000 transformation, which has included creating accessible changing space for adults and children with disabilities.

Cllr Jon Bateman, cabinet lead for open spaces at Harborough District Council, spoke to HFM:

Councillors & contractors with the new equipment

The transformation means families will benefit from specialist equipment, including a height adjustable changing table and associated hoist, nonslip flooring, reduced ceiling height, privacy screens and clear manoeuvring space.

The council has also ensured its upgraded facility has spacious baby change room in both the male and female toilets.

Funding for the improvements was made-up of £100,000 from Section 106 funding, given by developers for community infrastructure in areas where new homes have been built, £88,000 from Changing Place UK, and the council has invested £47,000.

John Collier is from Astor Bannerman, the company which supplied the specialist equipment:
