Teachers have staged a protest in Market Harborough after walking out on strike.

Members of the National Education Union from schools across the town formed a picket line outside Robert Smyth Academy, joined by some parents and children.

Teachers have joined colleagues from across the East Midlands in walking out for the second time this year, in a national dispute with the government over pay.

The action has resulted in the full or partial closure of most schools across Harborough today.

In Market Harborough, Welland Park Academy is closed to all year groups apart from year 11 and Robert Smyth Academy is only open to years 11, 12 and 13.

Children classed as ‘vulnerable’ are still attending both schools.
