Villagers Celebrate Securing Bus Service For Another Year

Villagers living near Market Harborough are celebrating securing their only bus services for another year.
The future of routes 59 and 60, which link places including Welford, Naseby, Clipston and Marston Trussell with Market Harborough and Northampton, were under threat as part of proposed budget cuts by West Northamptonshire Council.
But after a petition signed by nearly 400 residents was presented and passionate speeches by Parish Councils at a budget-setting meeting, the Conservative-run council agreed to an amendment tabled by the Liberal Democrat group.
It ensured financial support for bus routes subsidised by the council was maintained at its current level for another 12-months, while a new bus strategy is worked on.
Cllr Jonathan Harris, who represents the Brixworth area, was involved in the campaign:

A spokesperson for West Northamptonshire Council said: “The Council will be investing up to £215,000 in the year ahead towards bus services.
“This continues the funding allocated for the current year, while the Council shapes a new bus strategy and considers the most viable options for supporting and delivering the services in the future.”
