Council Tax Freeze Approved

Harborough District Council has agreed to freeze its share of council tax.
It is one of just six authorities nationwide to make no increase in the charge for the forthcoming year – saying it wants to support residents through the cost of living crisis.
The move was approved at last night’s budget-setting meeting, meaning people living in the average Band D home in the District will continue to pay an annual charge of £177.97.
Bills will still be increasing from April, as other charges including by Leicestershire County Council and Leicestershire Police are increasing.
Cllr Phil King, leader of the council, spoke to HFM:

The District Council had initially proposed increasing its share of council tax, but a better than expected settlement from the government and additional business rates income from Magna Park near Lutterworth, meant it was able to scrap the rise.
For subsequent years the council is proposing a notional increase of 2.99% per annum.
