Ambulance Workers Stage Strike Action

People are being urged to only phone for an ambulance if absolutely necessary as latest strike action takes place today.

East Midlands Ambulance Service wants people to make their own way to a treatment centre or hospital if it is safe to do so.

Staff who are members of two unions have walked out in an-going row with the government over pay and working conditions, with the army has been drafted in to help EMAS for the first time since the dispute began.

An agreement with the unions means staff will still respond to life-threatening 999 calls.

Ben Holdaway, Director of Operations at EMAS said: “It is important that the public use services wisely and make their own way to a treatment centre or hospital if safe to do so; this allows us to send our ambulances with life-saving equipment and clinicians on board to people who really need them.”
