Photo Of Canal In Wistow Voted The Nation’s Favourite

A photo of the Grand Union Canal in Wistow has been voted the nation’s favourite canal picture.

Over a million people took part in an on-line poll after The Canal and River Trust asked people to submit pictures to highlight the nation’s waterways.

The image by Alex Hamman features an early summer evening, with a setting sun that casts a warm orange glow between a ceiling of scattered clouds and tree lined fields beneath, all of which is captured in reflections along the canal itself, with reeds framing the canal’s banks and a narrowboat moored on the bend.

A spokesperson for the Trust said: “After the success of Rate this Scene last year, we brought it back for 2022 and encouraged people to vote for what canal imagery they found most beautiful, so we can continue to make our waterways as wonderful as possible for everyone to enjoy.”
