Flood Alert Issued For Rivers Welland & Jordan

Written by on 22nd November 2022

A Flood Alert has been issued for the River Welland through Market Harborough after the heavy rain led to water levels rising.

The Environment Agency says flooding is likely in low lying areas and on roads close to the river.

The alert also covers the River Jordan from Braybrooke to Market Harborough.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: “Over the last 24 hours we have seen heavy rainfall in the River Welland Valley catchment area.

“This means that the River Welland is now rising, which will lead to flooding of low lying land and roads close to the watercourse.

“Our forecasts indicate that flooding to properties isn’t likely and therefore flood warnings are not expected to be issued.

“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.”
