Historic Buildings Across Harborough Set To Be Given More Protection

Eleven historic buildings and structures across Harborough are set to be given more protection.

The former Magistrates’ Court and Cemetery Chapels in Market Harborough, former station in Great Glen and The Tower House in Gumley are among those set to be added to a Local List of Heritage Assets.

They have been identified for protection by Harborough District Council, because of their historic, architectural or archaeological interest.

Although being added to the list does not safeguard the buildings as much as if they received national ‘listed’ status, it does mean their significance is taken into account in planning applications for the sites or other buildings near-by.

Former station in Great Glen

The Council is asking people for their views before formally adding the buildings to the list.

The building identified are:

• The Tower House, Main Street, Gumley
• Claybrooke School, Main Road, Claybrooke Parva
• Former Station, Great Glen
• Railway Bridge, Broughton Lane, Leire
• Railway Bridge, Leire Road/Frolesworth Road
• 24-34 Lutterworth Road, Walcote
• Park House, Park Drive, Market Harborough
• Former Magistrates’ Court, Doddridge Road, Market Harborough
• Cemetery Chapels, Northampton Road, Market Harborough
• Cemetery Lodge, Northampton Road, Market Harborough
• Gate Piers to Former Bitteswell Hall, Hall Lane, Bitteswell
