Planning Inspector Visits Site Of Proposed New Prison Near Market Harborough

A government planning inspector is this afternoon visiting the site of a proposed new prison near Market Harborough, as a public inquiry continues.
Hayley Butcher will look at the area near the existing Gartree Prison, where the Ministry of Justice wants to build the 1700-inmate jail.
Earlier today the inspector and legal teams toured a recently opened new prison in Wellingborough.
The inquiry, which began last week, has already heard from campaigners opposed to the plan and the Ministry of Justice, who are challenging Harborough District Council decision to refuse it planning permission.
The inspector will make a recommendation to government as to whether she feels that decision should be overturned.
