Harborough & Melton Councils Could Join Forces To Share Senior Staff & More Services

Harborough District Council could join forces with Melton Borough Council to share a Chief Executive and other senior roles.

The authorities could also collaborate further in areas including waste and environment, regulatory services and CCTV monitoring.

The move, which would help cut costs, will be discussed by councillors in both areas next week.

A spokesman for Harborough District Council told HFM: “Earlier this year, Council agreed to look for a suitable partner for Harborough District Council to work with strategically.

“The Interim Chief Executive and the Leader of Harborough District Council have concluded that Melton Borough Council is the best strategic fit.

“Harborough District Council has been working closely with Melton Borough Council on a range of initiatives and we already collaborate in a number of service areas including Lifeline monitoring, out of hours support and parking enforcement.

“A report to set out our intention to explore this opportunity with Melton Borough Council and to develop a business case will be taken to the next Cabinet meeting on 10 October.

“If agreed, that business case report will then be considered at our Council meeting in December. Melton Borough Council is planning to take a similar report to their Cabinet meeting on 12 October.”

The Council’s former chief executive Norman Proudfoot retired earlier this year.
