Cafe Bar Saved From Closure After Apartment Plan Amended

A Market Harborough café bar has been saved from closure after plans for new apartments were amended.

The redevelopment of buildings on St Mary’s Road was to include Louisa’s Place, but the popular independent venue will now be retained as part of the scheme.

A campaign against the plan was mounted when it was first announced last year – 95 objections were lodged with Harborough District Council – the majority centred on the potential loss of the cafe bar.

The original scheme to create nine apartments within the buildings at 2 – 6 St Mary’s Road has been reduced to six apartments and retains commercial uses on the ground floor.

It was granted planning permission this week, however, there are concerns about the impact of the development.

Ian Scott, owner of Louisa’s Place, told HFM he is worried about the conflict between his business and residents who would live above, fearing complaints about noise.
