Desborough Estate Expansion Plan Halted Over Access Concerns

A plan to use a quiet cul-de-sac in Desborough as the access road for a major new housing development has been put on hold following protests by residents.
Councillors last night deferred making a decision on reserved planning matters for the already agreed 700-home Bellway Homes development, after hearing concerns from people living in Rowan Close.
They say their narrow street is wholly unsuitable to be used as the entry and exit to the area, which will be phase two of The Grange estate.

Homeowners say the amount of traffic using the close will increase from around 20 cars per hour at rush hour time to just under 200 vehicles and cause serious safety concerns.
Over 150 residents and a number of councillors signed a letter objecting to the plan, although it is feared it will still be given the go-ahead, as the meeting heard a planning officer at the former Kettering Borough Council had already approved the access under ‘delegated powers’ in 2016.
The meeting of North Northants Council’s strategic planning committee was adjourned to receive legal advice in a private discussion and when reconvened, councillors deferred making a decision, because further explanation was needed on various issues.
The plan will be reconsidered at a future date.
